Upgrading CEL 350/352 dBadge firmware via Infra Red upgrade program V1.07-> ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Running This program and Upgrading the CEL350/352 dBadge with new firmware via the Infra Red takes less about 90 seconds per CEL-350/352. The dBadge is now available as a CEL-350 standard and a CEL-352 model where the CEL-352 model has LCeq and LC-A extra results displayed. This program allows a dBadge with version 1.07 or later to be switched between the standard CEl-350 and CEL-352 models using QUPG350.EXE version 1.07. A password is required (based on your dBadge Serial number) to switch models. The password can be obtained from Casella CEL ltd. The same password can be used to switch back to a standard model allowing a user to switch a dBadge to be either CEL-350 or CEL-352 model at any time. Ensure following files are present QUPG350.EXE V1.07 Program to perform upgrade C350.IMG dBadge flash programming firmware + dBadge firmware V1.07 UPGHELP.TXT dBadge Upgrade documentation for this program 1) Remove any previous Versions of these files and then copy the 3 files above to a Hard disc folder. 2) Add a shortcut to QUPG350.EXE so program can be run from windows directly 3) If the dBadge has not been charged for several weeks or has less than 2 hours charge then charge for at least 15 minutes. If in doubt then always charge the unit to be sure the batteries will not fail during reprogramming. 4) Connect IR dongle to PC to COM1 or COM2. Only these 2 comm ports are used. 5) Switch on dBadge and wait about 10 seconds until it has finished the startup screens. Place the dongle within 30cm of the dBadge with the Infra Red plastic windows facing each other and protected from other Infra Red sources eg bright sunlight. 6) Download any required data in the dBadge by running dB35 PC program as all run data stored will be lost while updating the firmware OR if the model is changed. 7) Run QUPG350.EXE V1.07 as a DOS command or click on the shortcut. 8) Select either COM1 or COM2 and then the Upgrade program will start. 9) The current status of the meter is displayed including the display of the serial number, the current firmware version loaded and the firmware version available (held in c350.img file) and if the firmware is version 1.07 or later it displays whether the unit is an I.S (Intrincically Safe) version. 10) Select either to load the new firmware (no password required) or to change models (password required). Note: The option to change models is only available if firmware v1.07 or later is loaded first. 11) If changing models the program asks for the 7 digit password to be entered. 12) A warning that all CEL-350 data runs will be lost is displayed and the user must confirm to continue before the unit starts to load in new firmware or change models. If a "INVALID PASSWORD" is displayed then repeat the procedure checking that the correct password has been entered. 13) The CEL350/352 will display "UPGRADING" and erase all user runs (as the CEL 350/352 data memory is used to temporarily hold the downloaded firmware flash program) Note: The dBadge will flash the BLUE led approx every second while downloading. The Red LED will flash with every block of valid data received. 14) It then downloads a short boot program which will perform the flash memory burning. 15) It then will download the flash firmware which is temporarily stored in the dBadge's data memory until it is completely downloaded and checked. (this is downloaded in 384 blocks). If the firmware is completely downloaded and validated then and only then will it start to program the flash memory. 16) The PC will display "programming". The dBadge will display a continuous RED led whilst it is programming (approx 8 seconds). The firmware is read from the data memory and programmed into the Flash memory in the dBadge. NOTE:Stopping the Upgrade before "programming" is displayed will leave the dBadge's old firmware intact and only the user data runs will be erased. 17) If the dBadge has programmed correctly a continuous BLUE led is displayed. Switch unit OFF and ON and the new firmeware will run. Note: The Version /Issue number of the new firmware is displayed on the first screen. 18) If there is a problem a continuous RED led is displayed or the unit may start running the normal program. If it fails switch OFF then ON and try again from the beginning. NOTES a) When the dBadge powers up after the program version or issue has been changed then all the configuration and non-volatile memory is reset back to its factory defaults. The ONLY things which are NOT reset are the Instrument Serial Number and the battery hours left and the current model number CEL-350 or CEL-352. b) The new firmware version and issue number eg (V 1.07) is at the very start of the C350.IMG file and can be viewed by opening this file with windows notepad so you can be sure which firmware upgrade version is installed. c) The main CPU PCB was changed Mar 2007 to allow an I.S variant of the CEL-350 and this requires at least V1.05 firmware. This firmware will work on new or old pcbs and I.S or non I.S variants. If the dBadge is currently running V1.05 or later then it should not be loaded with old firmware <= V1.04 unless you are certain the pcbs are old pcbs as old firmware running on a new pcb will cause Batt or Voltage errors on power up. d) Version 1.07 and later firmware allows the model number CEL-350 or CEL-352 to be selected via a program QUPG350.EXE v1.07 using a password provided by Casella based on the dBadge serial number.
